Getting To Dublin Airport By Bus
Dublin airport is located approximately 10km, or 6.2 miles from the city center of Dublin, and is the busiest airport in terms of commercial passenger traffic on the island of Ireland. It is also rated as one of the busiest airports in the world for international traffic, with it’s most popular international destination is the London-Heathrow Airport. DUB is the airport's official IATA code, in order to distinguish it from similar establishments. Dublin buses are plentiful, and travel to a large number of city and intercity destinations. The airport bus services are operated by several companies, and they all provide a reliable, efficient and cost-effective means of onward transport.
There is no railway station at the airport, therefore the buses are a very popular means of transport. However, certain buses of the airport take passengers to the nearby Dublin railway stations. Over 700 buses pass by the airport every day, providing transport to hundreds of passengers. The network of the airport buses serve both the wider Dublin area, as well as many towns and cities in the rest of Ireland. Passengers are advised to research the information provided on the websites of each bus company, as they all differ in regards to fares, schedules and terms of use. The Dublin buses for the city are operated by the companies of Airlink, Aircoach, Flybus and Urbus, and buses for intercity links include those by the companies of Ardcavan, Aircoach, Bus Eireann, Citylink, Dublin Coach, John Mcginley, JJ Kavanagh, GoBus and Wexford Bus.
Buses for the city
The main provider of transport to and from Dublin Airport is the Dublin Bus company, operating two Airlink Express routes, as well as many other routes throughout Dublin city. The Airlink Express routes 747 and 748 allow passengers to reach Busáras, the central bus station for regional and intercity bus services in Dublin city, the Dublin Connolly Railway Station and the Dublin Heuston Railway Station, as well as the city center and other areas in Dublin. The buses leave approximately every ten minutes during the day. An adult single ticket will cost 6.00 Euro and a return ticket will cost 10.00 Euro. Children pay half price. The bus tickets are available in Terminal 1 of Dublin Airport from the Tourism Information Desks in the arrivals hall, from vending machines at the Airlink bus stop and from the Airlink bus driver. From Terminal 2, passengers must buy a ticket from the bus driver. Further details for the Dublin bus are available at http://www.dublinbus.ie.
Aircoach is available for luxury coach services between the airport and Dublin city center twenty-four hours a day. Four city routes are available: Ballsbridge and Leopardstown for the city center and most of the major hotels and places of business, and Greystones and Killiney/Dalkey, for the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire and the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel in Killiney. If arriving in Terminal 1, turn left as you exit the building for the Aircoach bus stops, and if arriving in Terminal 2, follow the signs for buses and coaches on the same level, cross a footbridge and go down the escalator on the left-hand side. Departing passengers can also reach both terminals on the Aircoach buses. The company’s website is found at http://www.aircoach.ie.
Flybus travels along the M50 and N4 to the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, the Mill Shopping Complex, Clondalkin (The Square) and to Tallaght. A single bus ticket will cost 9.00 Euro, and a return ticket valid for three months will cost 15.00 Euro. Children under the age of fifteen will pay only 6.00 or 10.00 Euro respectively. The official website of Flybus is found at http://www.flybus.ie.
The fourth city bus available is operated by the Urbus company, and is known as North Dublin’s premier bus service. This bus links the airport to the areas of Castleknock, Blanchardstown Shopping Centre and other areas in Blanchardstown, Tyrrelstown and Swords. The different journeys have various prices, ranging from 1.50 Euro to 4.50 Euro. Tickets in booklets of ten can also be purchased. More information is available at https://www.urbus.ie.
Intercity services
From outside the terminals passengers have access to nine coach services which travel to other towns and cities in Ireland. Aircoach, with the same details as mentioned above, travels to Cork. The buses leave from the Dublin Airport Coach Park located in the short-term car park. A trip to Cork will cost 15.00 Euro for an adult single ticket, and 22.00 Euro for a return ticket. Children younger than 13 years of age travel at a cheaper rate, but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian as there are no services for unaccompanied minors on the buses.
Ardcavan offers daily services (Monday to Saturday) from the Coach Park to the city center, with stops at Gorey, Enniscorthy, Wexford and lastly, the Wellington Bridge. Details are available at https://www.ardcavan.com. Bus Eireann serves a large number of national routes which are available for passengers, and the routes which do not call on the airport can be taken from the bus station in the city, reached by the Airlink bus. Destinations served by Bus Eireann include Belfast, Galway, Wexford, Sligo, Donegal, Drogheda, Navan and Wicklow. The company's website is at https://www.buseireann.ie.
Citylink operates daily direct services from Dublin Airport, leaving from bus stops 5 and 6 in Zone 11 of Terminal 1, and which is also the pick-up area for Terminal 2. Some of the destinations of Citylink include Enfield, Kinnegad, Miltownpass, Rochfortbridge, Tyrellspass, Moate, Athlone and Ballinasloe, and their details are at https://www.citylink.ie. Passengers can travel to Portlaoise via the Red Cow LUAS on the Dublin Coach (https://www.dublincoach.ie), to Donegal, Derry, Tyrone and many others by John McGinley (https://www.johnmcginley.com) and to Kilkenny, Clonmel, Limerick, Waterford and Tramore by JJ Kavanagh (https://www.jjkavanagh.ie).
GoBus is a non-stop coach service running between Galway and the airport. Their services commence at 01:00 and end at 23:15, seven days a week, and the Wexford Bus takes passengers to Wexford Town, with stops at various other areas as well. A ticket to Wexford will cost 20.00 Euro. The websites of these two companies can be found at https://www.gobus.ie and https://www.wexfordbus.com.
The Dublin buses are an excellent way to travel to any of the destinations mentioned, and are always considered to provide clean and comfortable services. The airport can be contacted for further details as well, at the following telephone number: +353 (0)1 814 1111.
