Lusk lies some 23 km or 14 miles north of central Dublin. It's a charming place with a traditional thatched cottage and its own heritage center, housed in an imposing building that comes with its own round tower, church and medieval belfry. Lusk Heritage Center offers visitors an insight into the village's development and what else there is in the immediate surroundings.

Some 26 km north of central Dublin lies the pretty seaside resort of Rush, where broad beaches north and south of the harbour are busiest during the summer months, not least because the views across to Lambay Island, a privately owned bird sanctuary, are so lovely. It takes just half an hour to drive to Rush from Dublin City Center, and yet it feels like stepping back in time and into an entirely different world.

South Dublin and County Wicklow offer a different scenic aspect. The popular seaside resort of Bray lies just 21 km or 13 miles distance from central Dublin down the N11 route, a 25-minute journey. The little town is mostly 19th century in character, having been created by the railway entrepreneur William Dargan. Dargan is often called the "Father of Irish railways", for he designed and built the first Irish railway, which ran from Dublin to Dun Laoghaire in 1833.

Wicklow County holds many attractions, especially the Wicklow Mountains. Situated south of Dublin in the east of Ireland, the county is home to Wicklow Way, a 129km-long hiking trail that runs through the most beautiful countryside and spans parts of Wicklow Mountains National Park. The national park boasts glacial lakes and rivers as well as the ruins of an early-medieval settlement set in a lovely forested valley. Glendalough was founded by St Kevin in the 6th century. Wicklow County is also home to the grand houses of Russborough and Killruddery and stunning gardens of Mount Usher and Powerscourt. There is something for everybody in the "Garden of Ireland", as Wicklow is often referred to.
